Characterisation of intra-hourly wind power ramps at the wind farm scale and associated processes

Abstract. One of the main factors contributing to wind power forecast inaccuracies is occurrence large changes in output over a short amount time, also called “ramp events”. In this paper, we assess behaviour and causality 1183 ramp events at farm site located Victoria (southeast Australia). We address relative importance primary engineering meteorological processes inducing ramps through an automatic categorisation scheme. Ramp features such as amplitude, shape, diurnal cycle seasonality are further discussed, several case studies presented. It shown that study mostly associated with frontal activity (46 %) fluctuations tend plateau before after ramps. The research demonstrates wide range temporal scales behaviours inherent intra-hourly scale.
